Playing with Google Trends
Google have a nice new toy called Google Trends - here’s some searches that I’ve come up with that are amusing..
- Wikipedia versus Britannica
- Battle of the Linux Distros (improved by Rich).
- The Coalition of the Willing
- Italian Elections
- Debian versus Ubuntu
- Processors used in VPAC clusters
- Evolution of a web browser
- Scientific American versus New Scientist
- Holy wars!
Fun for all the family!

A good choice of trends to exploit Google Trends to its full. What I found amazing was the comparison of Linux distros, where Ubuntu has made leaps and bounds compared with Redhat and Debian. I also enjoyed looking at the Mozilla/Firefox/Netscape chart. Equally amazing was the comparison between Wikipedia and Britannica encyclopaedias.

To be fair, shouldn’t the linux distros have Debian and Ubuntu as one since Ubuntu is closely derived from Debian?
i.e. http://www.google.com/trends?q=debian | ubuntu, redhat | fedora, suse, gentoo&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all
Firefox vs. Internet Explorer is rather interesting as well:

Finally, another one I like is:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=rail, freeways |motorway |roads&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all
(Though i really doubt that the ‘extra police at rail stations’ in the Melbourne Herald Sun is anything more than a coincidence!)
