Wales 27 – England 18

Well there was me thinking we were going to get the wooden spoon after Wales lost their first 4 matches in the Six Nations, but they’ve managed to avoid that by beating the old enemy, England, 27-18! Our fly half (James Hook) managed to score 22 of those 27 points.

Would have been nicer to have won a few more matches along the way, but at least it’s not a whitewash (especially given that 74,500 people were watching in the ground). 🙂

  1. :)) :)) :))

James Hook is our local hero, playing for the Ospreys. (Neath & Swansea combined to form the regional team, after you left I think). Another Osprey, Shane Williams worked hard as usual, but was not yet used to the idea that with Hook now at no 10, there was a chance of support behind him and failed to pass on several occasions, which could have led to an even better result. But hey! at least the dreaded wooden spoon headed North and the whitewash brush was left in its pot. 😉

We got up at 3am to watch your GP too… it looked lovely weather there! We could just about hear the racing over the din of yet another severe gale and the rain battering on the windows!! Great result though!

  2. As well as all the old rugby clubs there are also now Regional teams, presumably with higher salaries:

    Ospreys (Neath/Swansea)
    Dragons (Newport/Ebbw vale/Pontypool/Pontyprydd)
    Scarlets (Llanelli)
    Blues (Cardiff)

The club teams also operate in other leagues. Since the introduction of the professional game, it has all changed. The Ospreys now share a new stadium with Swansea city FC, built at the Morfa where Rich used to train in the olden days!

They changed all the teams around whilst we were in Spain and we were totally lost at first when we came home!

  3. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, Chris, especially as you have only just learnt about the new teams…. but the Opspreys have just beaten the Blues in the EDF Cup Semi-final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff…Cracking game!

    Ospreys 27 🙂 Blues 10 🙁

Ospreys will meet Leicester Tigers in the final on April 25th at HQ
