Twitter Weekly Updates for 2010-10-24

Posted on October 24, 2010 by Chris Samuel
  • Looks like old imagery in @GoogleEarth isn't limited to UK, there's air photos of German cities from 1943 (inc. Berlin)! #
  • Hmm, turns out this 1940's era imagery has been in Google Earth for about a year, oh well! 🙂 #
  • Rumours that UK's Severn Barrage scheme to be scrapped, to be replaced with more nuclear power – http://bbc.in/b9q3RJ #
  • Looks like the weird network issues on the #VLSCI BlueGene/P were due to deteriorating GBIC in login node, sigh.. 🙁 #
  • So with the new GBIC iperf tells me I can sustain 9.88Gb/s for 30 minutes to transfer 2.2TB of data – not bad for a VM! #
  • Oops, in last tweet the 2.2TB should have been 2.02TB, but what's 200GB between friends ? 🙂 #
  • That's 3 episodes of "Monkey" watched, only another 49 episodes to go! 🙂 #
  • .@NewHorizons2015 now has fewer sleeps to get to Pluto than it has taken to get where it is (halfway chronologically) #

  • Phew – @ear1grey tells me the category 1 accident in #Portsmouth is just a radiation drill, been planned for some time. #
  • .@ear1grey has just nipped off to a tutorial, just had a quick chat with him on skype and all is well in #Portsmouth #
  • Home at 7pm, fish fed, ducks fed, now 8pm and I guess I should eat something myself.. 😉 #
  • Fab! Joshua backported a patch to exiv2 to fix 150-200x slowdown bug in ops on Nikon images http://bit.ly/atWlZg #ubuntu #
  • Now just have to hope that someone at #ubuntu cares enough to take ownership and incorporate it, it's only been 4 months.. #
  • Upgraded zfs-fuse to 0.6.9 (gone from #ZFS pool v16 to 23) and turned on dedup+verify, hoping to reduce space backups use #
  • Damn, that patch to exiv2 results in Gwenview, Konqueror + Nepomuk crashing with segv on some images. 🙁 #ubuntu #
  • Nice #HPC 101 poster from Ast.Prof. Mohamed Ahmed @ American Uni in Cairo – http://bit.ly/c6NQTz (via @insideHPC) #
