Finally I’ve stumbled across packages of the KDE4 version of Digikam (0.10) which is currently in beta.
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/digikam-experimental/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
They’re part of the Digikam Experimental Personal Package Archive (PPA) and so track the latest development releases (0.10.0-rc1 as I write this) and work for me on Ubuntu Intrepid with KDE 4.2 (at the moment) – remember to install Marble!
Note
Many thanks to Maarten Fonville who previously provided packages that this story originally pointed to, and who commented with the above alternative archive.
coolness! I’ve been waiting for this forever! Thanks!
darn. spoke too soon. I’ve installed all Marble related packages but am getting this error:
digikam: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libdigikamcore.so.1: undefined symbol: _ZN6Marble12MarbleWidget16addPlaceMarkDataERK7QString
have you seen this problem before? Thanks!
feicipet: Probably you need to include one or more of the “PPA dependencies” listed on “Maarten Fonville’s Personal Package Archive” (see link above).
Hi,
I encouter the same problem.
However this works on another laptop where I did this manipulation last week. Maybe a recent update broke marble/digikam ?
Same problem here? All the dependencies are included… I have KDE 4.2 RC1…
Regards
NapPo
well, I installed the digikam package at the same time as I installed RC1. so maybe this was due to mismatched dependencies with RC1 packages. Maybe if Chris were to upgrade his packages from Beta2 to RC1 as well we would know for sure? π
Actually I’d updated to KDE 4.2 RC when it came out but forgot to try Digikam since and yes, I get the same issue as the rest of you! π
Hmm, I’ve been trying to rebuild Maarten’s package using dpkg-buildpackage without success, it fails with the error:
dh_install: digikam missing files (usr/share/icons/hicolor/*/apps/digikam.png), aborting
which now I’ve looked at Maarten’s build logs is the same reason his packages aren’t getting rebuilt. π
Any ideas ?
Hey,
I found this site now by accident π
but I am not updating my packages anymore, since the 0.10 packages are now included in Ubuntu Jaunty, so you can fetch them from packages.ubuntu.com
cheers!
Have a lΓΒΆok here:
http://www.prodeia.de/wordpress/2009/01/28/digikam-0100-rc1-kipi-plugins-020-rc1-kmldonkey-205-for-intrepid-kde-42/
@Maartin: thanks for the update and also for your work on it – I guess we need to wait for Jaunty to appear to be able to use Digikam again.. π
@Uatschitchun: thanks for that, good find!
A better ppa to use is:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/digikam-experimental/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
That one is made by the digikam people themselves, I believe
Thanks Maarten – I’ve updated this blog post to point to that PPA instead, much obliged!
happy to report that:
it verks! it verks!!! it VERRRRKS!!!!!!!!!!
oh well, now to get over the learning curve of a new version again π but I’m more than happy all the same… my flickr account has been neglected ever since I lost the use of digikam, that’s how important it is to me…
Does this install in place of our alongside the KDE3 version, I’m on KDE4 but I’d rather not commit to this before I try it.
Hmm, I suspect it replaces it as the package has the same name as the KDE3 version.
Do you happen to know of a PPA or other source for ubuntu packages of the digikam betas on the way to 1.0? Thanks.
I think the KDE Experimental PPA mentioned in the article seems to be picking them up.
You can see the deb’s here:
